Self Reflection

Self reflection

Confidence is not a trait picked up through studying nor learning, it comes with practice and enthusiasm. Thanks to Mr. Greg whose been by our side the whole way, he helped me gain that confidence through my Professional Communication’s course. In this course, I was asked to do presentations and researches about given topics such as the “Ittihad Railway”. A couple of my classmates and I have made a research gathering all the important details, and putting them in a report and then making it into a PowerPoint presentation, where we put all the important details into points to make it easier to attract the audience and have their full attention without them getting bored from all the words usually used when writing an essay or a word document. Through all the presentations and practice we did, I have gained confidence in presenting and speaking in public to an individual or audience. I think that’s the most important objective I have leant through this course. In the future when I start working and receive a task to present any given topic, I will know how to put my thoughts together and present them with full confidence, facing no problems through my career when it comes to projects and presentations. I have the will to be the best and after completing this course, I believe that I will be able to achieve anything that comes in my way. This course gave me a lot of valuable and helpful information that I will use throughout my life not only professionally but also personally.

My part of the project

Introduction:

One of the biggest future plans in the United Arab Emirates is the Etihad Railway. A railway that stretches through AbuDhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujeirah, Ras Al Khaima, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain also links the UAE to Saudi Arabia through AlGhweifat in the West and Oman through Al Ain in the East. This huge project that consists of a 1,200 kilometers rail costs 11 billion dollars. The Arabian Gulf lacks the transport technology that other countries have. The first train built in the United Arab Emirates was made in the city of Dubai, which is a small city train. The great thought of expanding this idea and building a bigger railway will decrease a big number of problems in the transport area, and will make an easier access to enter and exit the UAE. The main goal of the Etihad Rail is to create an efficient transport network for all citizens. Opening of this project is planned to be in 2013.

“Business Development Director at Etihad Rail, said, Etihad Rail intends to become not only a source of national pride but also the most trusted mode of transport across the Emirates: a safe, efficient and sustainable transport system forming a new logistics network”(1)

Conclusion:

In my conclusion, the idea of building this rail will open many doors and solve many issues. This project will decrease traffic jam, and add a new source of transportation other than by a vehicle or a car. The train will help visitors from Saudia or Oman to visit the United Arab Emirates in a faster way rather than driving and in a cheaper way rather than taking a flight by a plane. Moreover, it will help citizens of the UAE to travel around the seven Emirates without worrying about traffic jam or any traffic condition. There will be more than one railway and several trains that will run through them throughout the day to assure the satisfaction of the population. There will also be a fast track train between Abu Dhabi(UAE’s Capital city) and Dubai given they are the top two visited cities and the two most popular and famous. Construction on the first part of the national railway is expected to be completed in 2014. However, completion of the full project is expected to be in 2017.  John Dionisio, the president and chief executive of Aecom, said “the contract would be a central element of the United Arab Emirates's transport infrastructure and would help to drive economic growth"(2).
The network is designed to transport about 50 million tonnes of cargo and 16 million passengers, with Etihad Rail prioritizing goods and heavy industrial products such as steel, concrete and petrochemicals. This project is going to be so useful for the future of the United Arab Emirates making it a more modern and contemporary country that has transport technologies like the rest of the world.
