My part of the project

Introduction:

One of the biggest future plans in the United Arab Emirates is the Etihad Railway. A railway that stretches through AbuDhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujeirah, Ras Al Khaima, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain also links the UAE to Saudi Arabia through AlGhweifat in the West and Oman through Al Ain in the East. This huge project that consists of a 1,200 kilometers rail costs 11 billion dollars. The Arabian Gulf lacks the transport technology that other countries have. The first train built in the United Arab Emirates was made in the city of Dubai, which is a small city train. The great thought of expanding this idea and building a bigger railway will decrease a big number of problems in the transport area, and will make an easier access to enter and exit the UAE. The main goal of the Etihad Rail is to create an efficient transport network for all citizens. Opening of this project is planned to be in 2013.

“Business Development Director at Etihad Rail, said, Etihad Rail intends to become not only a source of national pride but also the most trusted mode of transport across the Emirates: a safe, efficient and sustainable transport system forming a new logistics network”(1)

Conclusion:

In my conclusion, the idea of building this rail will open many doors and solve many issues. This project will decrease traffic jam, and add a new source of transportation other than by a vehicle or a car. The train will help visitors from Saudia or Oman to visit the United Arab Emirates in a faster way rather than driving and in a cheaper way rather than taking a flight by a plane. Moreover, it will help citizens of the UAE to travel around the seven Emirates without worrying about traffic jam or any traffic condition. There will be more than one railway and several trains that will run through them throughout the day to assure the satisfaction of the population. There will also be a fast track train between Abu Dhabi(UAE’s Capital city) and Dubai given they are the top two visited cities and the two most popular and famous. Construction on the first part of the national railway is expected to be completed in 2014. However, completion of the full project is expected to be in 2017.  John Dionisio, the president and chief executive of Aecom, said “the contract would be a central element of the United Arab Emirates's transport infrastructure and would help to drive economic growth"(2).
The network is designed to transport about 50 million tonnes of cargo and 16 million passengers, with Etihad Rail prioritizing goods and heavy industrial products such as steel, concrete and petrochemicals. This project is going to be so useful for the future of the United Arab Emirates making it a more modern and contemporary country that has transport technologies like the rest of the world.
